Southern Miss Splits Matches at the Sugar Beach Bash

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Golden Eagle beach volleyball finished its weekend of four competitive matches with a 2-2 record and another Sun Belt Conference victory, placing Southern Miss at 2-0 in Sun Belt play ahead of next weekend's Sun Belt Mid-Season Seeding Tournament.

Southern Miss 3, Stephen F. Austin 2
The Golden Eagles 6-10 (2-0 Sun Belt) opened the weekend against new SBC member Stephen F. Austin. Southern Miss won on courts one, four and five and came within a few points on court two.

Southern Miss suffered its first loss of the weekend to New Orleans as the Privateers picked up points on four courts. Jessica Fairly and Dylan Russell were not quite able to take their sets, but played UNO's fours into extra points in each of the two sets.

Sadie McAda and Laurel Dennis picked up their first win of the day as Southern Miss' twos.

Southern Miss forced three games into a third set but was only able to come away with one point out of those. The Golden Eagles also forced extra points on the fifth pair's court in both set one and set two.

Southern Miss' final bout of the tournament came against its host, Southeastern. The Lions pushed Southern Miss to four third sets and to extra points at the top flight. However, Southern Miss was able to edge out SLU on three courts to take a 3-2 decision and finish the weekend at 2-2 overall.
