HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss (1-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) women's tennis team travels to Birmingham, Ala. for a pair of matches on Sunday and Monday. The Golden Eagles will play Belmont in a neutral contest on Sunday at 11 a.m., then play at Samford on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
"These two matches are going to be a good test as both are really good teams," said head coach Piyanart Engineer. "Belmont played Ole Miss and Mississippi State very close and Samford also played Mississippi State close."
Southern Miss is coming off a loss to Northwestern State where they won the doubles point but failed to win a singles match. Alyssa Ricther and Hannah Chambers picked up a win on court one, while Malannia Vashkevich and Angelina Blinova won on court three.
Belmont heads into Sunday's contest with a 3-2 overall record after losing back-to-back matches to Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The Bruins have picked up wins over UAB, Southeastern Missouri and Austin Peay. Mariia Hlohalo leads the team with a 4-1 mark on court one and Vesa Gjinaj is 10-3 overall and 4-1 in dual matches.
Samford is 2-1 with wins over Alabama State and North Alabama. The Bulldogs lost their season opener at Mississippi State, 5-2. Margaret Jaraczewski and Emily Surcey are both 3-0 this season.
