BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Lady Eagles fell 62-46 to Buffalo in a late nonconference matchup as part of the second leg of the MAC-SBC Challenge. Rana Elhusseini recorded a triple-double for the third time in Buffalo's program history, going for 11 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Three Bulls recorded double-doubles on the day.
Two Lady Eagles managed to score in double figures with Melyia Grayson (Hattiesburg, Miss.) and Morgan Sieper (Tampa, Fla.) scratching out 10 points on the day. Grayson also recorded her 16th career double-double thanks to her 13 rebounds.
The Bulls struck first and played suffocating defense to keep the Lady Eagles from getting into rhythm as the two trudged to a 9-7 score in favor of the Bulls after the first quarter. Sieper hit her second three-ball of the day out of the break to give Southern Miss a 10-9 lead. Southern Miss extended that lead to three with 8:33 left in the first half before Elhusseini hit a layup to take Buffalo's final lead of the day. The Bulls led for the remainder of the game.
At the half, Buffalo led Southern Miss 21-17 and had held Southern Miss to a 7-of-30 shooting performance (23.3 percent) from the floor. Domonique Davis (DeRidder, La.) stole the opening possession away from Buffalo to force a jump ball. The Bulls scored the next five points of the game and began to open up their margin further, leading by as many as 22 with 5:20 left to play.
Southern Miss was able to salvage some play down the stretch and get almost three minutes of floor time for the bench, but was unable to make up for Buffalo's red-hot third quarter.
