Navet Goes Four-Under Par to Open The Ally

WEST POINT, Miss. --Â Sophomore Ragini Navet carried the torch on Monday for the Golden Eagles as she shot a four-under 68 in the opening round of The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point. Southern Miss women's golf shot 313 as a team, while Navet was playing as an individual.
Navet started her round with a clean first nine that included a birdie on the 15th hole and then rolled that play into her second nine. She started with a birdie on the first hole and then added two more over the final four holes. Navet played bogey-free golf en route to her four-under 68.
Taylor Trible fired a four-over 74 to deliver the low score for the team total and added a pair of birdies to her round. Elena Melich, Jacee Fields, and Louise Cuyvers all shot a seven-over 79. Cuyvers' highlight of the day came on the second hole where she recorded an eagle on the 474-yard par five. Fields (four) and Melich (three) combined for seven birdies. Momoka Ando shot a nine-over 81.Â
Southern Miss is tied with Wisconsin for 15th on the team leaderboard. Vanderbilt leads the field after going 10-under par for the day. Mississippi State and Florida trail the Commodores as the only other teams to shoot under par.Â
The second round of The Ally starts at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Ando will be the first Golden Eagle to tee off at 9:15 a.m.
