TV: ESPN+ | Lee Roberts (PxP) and Larry Boyd (Color)
Radio: Southern Miss Sports Network (92.7 FM) | Jason Baker (PxP) and Kay James (Color)
Reed Green Coliseum (8,095) | Hattiesburg, Miss.
LAST TIME OUT
Southern Miss cruised to a 77-43 win over South Alabama to improve to 3-6 in Sun Belt play and 10-9 overall. The Lady Eagles led by as many as 42 and enjoyed multiple runs, including a 24-0 run from the first quarter into the second, in their rout of the Jaguars. The win is Southern Miss' third-largest of the last five seasons and helped Southern Miss get back on track in the conference race.
Jacorriah Bracey (Drew, Miss.) scored a career-high 21 points for her first 20-point game to lead all scorers. She was joined in double figures by Brikayla Gray (Hebron, Miss.) and Melyia Grayson (Hattiesburg, Miss.).
The win also marked the 25th overall win over South Alabama, tying the South Alabama series with Memphis as Southern Miss' third-most won series in program history.
ABOUT LOUISIANA
Twelfth-year head man Garry Brodhead is already the greatest coach in program history and shows no signs of stopping. The Cajuns are known for their suffocating style of defense, holding teams to 62.7 points per game – 138th in DI and third in the Sun Belt. The Cajuns are 8-10 overall but 4-5 in Sun Belt play and riding a two-game win streak into Hattiesburg.
On the flip side, Louisiana does not excel on the glass, sitting five spots from the bottom of Division I with just 30.22 boards per game. The Cajuns also struggle to dish out the ball and block opposing shots, sitting at 343 and 335 in each category, respectively.
Tamera Johnson leads the offensive charge for UL, averaging just 11.7 per game. The Cajuns do average just 59.2 points per contest, so Johnson is almost 20 percent of their attack. Johnson also leads the group with a respectable 6.1 boards per game.
THE LOUISIANA SEIRES
Southern Miss has dominated the overall series and leads 15-3 overall. Most of the history between the two came prior to 2000 with just four games since the new millennium. The Lady Eagles have won the last 10 meetings against Louisiana and Joye Lee-McNelis is 4-0 all-time against Louisiana and 2-0 when head-to-head against Brodhead.
However, the last two games of the series, both in Sun Belt play, have been decided by a combined margin of six points. Bracey stole victory from the jaws of defeat in a 44-43 win at Reed Green Coliseum and Domonique Davis propelled Southern Miss to a 69-64 win in overtime in Lafayette to end the season.
AFTER THIS
Southern Miss celebrates Senior Day and welcomes back its alumnae with a special celebration for the 1993-94 Sweet Sixteen team against Troy on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Reed Green Coliseum.
Tipoff between the Lady Eagles and Trojans is set for 2:02 p.m.
