Southern Miss Drops Road Contest at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – A pair of Chanticleers combined for 43 points in Coastal Carolina's 88-71 win over Southern Miss at the HTC Center. The Lady Eagles played well statistically, shooting 43.3 percent from the floor and 36.8 from behind the arc, but were unable to keep up with Coastal's high-volume offense.
Coastal Carolina (7-8, 1-1 Sun Belt) scored four seconds into the game and did not look back, leading for the remaining 39:36 of play. CCU's Makaila Cange scored 13 points on her own in the first quarter, including the Chanticleers' first 11 points. At the end of the first, Southern Miss trailed 29-14 to the homestanding Chanticleers.
Southern Miss (7-5, 0-2 Sun Belt) shot 60.0 from the floor in the first half, hitting 15 of its 26 total shots in the game. The Lady Eagles made three fewer field goals in the first 20 minutes but trailed by 12 thanks to Coastal's seven triples.
The Chanticleers made only one three in the second half while Southern Miss drilled five in the second half. Southern Miss placed three in double figures, lead by Domonique Davis' (DeRidder, La.) 21 points and followed by Jacorriah Bracey's (Drew, Miss.) 12 and Melyia Grayson's (Hattiesburg, Miss.) 11.
Southern Miss' loss is the team's fifth in as many games, the largest losing skid since 2020-21.
