HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's tennis team opens up its 2024 slate with home matches against Florida A&M and Southeastern Louisiana this weekend. First serve for the Golden Eagles is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday against the Rattlers, followed by a 1 p.m. match against the Lions on Sunday. Admission to both matches at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex is free.
The Golden Eagles return six members from last year's roster, including veteran leaders Suhana Das and Alyssa Richter. Angelina Blinova, Hannah Chambers, Zenn Lim, and Malannia Vashkevich are joined by newcomer Sydney Smyczynski.
"We have two matches this weekend that are going to help us gauge where we stand heading into the meat of our season," said head coach Piyanart Engineer. "We've got a good mix on young and old players that provide a balanced roster. We are excited to see what Sydney can do for us as she just joined us this month."
The Golden Eagles beat Florida A&M on the road last season, 4-2. Sunday's contest against Southeastern is the first since Southern Miss cruised to a 4-0 win in Hattiesburg during the 2022 season.
