HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-- The Southern Miss Cross Country team finished their performance at the Southern Showcase hosted by Jacksonville State at John Hunt Park on Friday morning.
"I'm proud of what we saw today," said Coach Gibson. "Izzy showed great determination by staying with the leading pack, and our girls put in remarkable effort, competing against some of the nation's top teams."
Sophomore Isabela Ross stood out as the sole top-ten scorer for the Black and Gold, securing a seventh-place finish with a time of 16:52.30, which marked an impressive nine-second improvement from her previous personal best. Notably, her time also replaced the program's second-best 5K record, previously held by Ross from last season's Chile Pepper Festival (17:01.70).
Following Ross, freshman Brynn Kelso made a notable performance, achieving a personal best time of 18:40.60 and finishing in 97th place, an improvement from her time of 19:13.30 at the Mississippi College Opener just two weeks prior. Kristina Stojanovic crossed the finish line shortly after Kelso, securing the 100th spot and setting a new personal best time of 18:42.10.
Returner Sarah Parnell claimed the 104th position at 18:46.90, while newcomers Kendall Drisko (19:24.00) and Sylvia White (21:13.90) achieved personal best times, finishing 147th and 237th overall. The team's collective effort led them to a 12th-place finish out of 36 competing teams.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will take two weeks off before hitting the course again at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., on Sep. 29.
