OPELIKA, Ala. – Southern Miss junior right-handed pitcher Tanner Hall earned his first All-American honor of the season, Thursday, being named first team starting pitcher by Collegiate Baseball.
Hall, from Zachary, La., became the first Southern Miss player to ever win first-team honors in consecutive seasons.
The 2023 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year posted a 12-3 record with a 2.23 ERA in 15 starts through the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. His numbers for the season included having thrown 97 innings and fanned 109 with 30 walks and 67 hits, while opponents are hitting .194 against him this season.
The three-time Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, along with being named the Guardian Credit Union Sun Belt Championship Most Outstanding Player, was the only starter in the league to win nine of his 10 starts in league play. The next best was seven.
Hall reached 100-plus strikeouts for the second consecutive season and his 12 wins ranks tied for second nationally. He has won his last five starts and 10 of his last 11. His strikeout total included a career-high 15 against Arkansas State as he enjoyed double-figure strikeout totals four times during the year. He went five innings in all but one start during the year, including seven or better in each of his last five starts. He threw a complete-game victory over Troy during the regular season and another one versus James Madison in the Sun Belt Tournament.
His season win total ranks second on the school career charts, while his career victories (22) are tied for seventh at the school. He also has registered 287 career strikeouts which puts him in fourth place at the university.
Hall is expected to start for the Golden Eagles when Southern Miss opens postseason play in the NCAA Auburn Regional, Friday, against Samford. Game time is set for 1 p.m. The game can be seen via ESPN+ and heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
