HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team brings a season-best, seven-game winning streak into its Sun Belt Conference series this weekend when they take on South Alabama at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
Â
Game times are set for 6 p.m., Friday, 2 p.m., Saturday, and 1 p.m., on Sunday as all three games can be seen via ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
Â
Southern Miss finds itself with a 29-15 overall record and a 14-7 league mark, which is good for second place and only one game behind leader Coastal Carolina. The Golden Eagles are in the midst of playing 11 of their final 14 regular season games at home.
Â
The Golden Eagles opened the final month of the regular season Tuesday with a 10-5 come-from-behind victory over Tulane. The victory marked the 21st at home for Southern Miss as they now have collected eight-straight season – except for the COVID season – with 20 or more victories at home.
Â
The big blow was a grand slam by freshman Nick Monistere. The Golden Eagle homer marked the seventh-straight game the team had posted a long ball in a game, having blasted 18 over that span. In fact, Southern Miss has 27 homers over the last 13 games as the team has registered 58 this season.
Â
Junior Dustin Dickerson continues to lead the Golden Eagles in hitting with a .347 batting average with a team-best 17 doubles. For his career, Dickerson has collected 56 two-base hits which places him tied for sixth on the school career chart, tying him with his former high school coach Trey Sutton.
Â
Southern Miss has won the last two meetings with the Jaguars (23-21, 11-10) in a series dating back to 1967. USA leads the overall set 67-40 and are 28-22 against the Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg.
Â
Following the USA series, Southern Miss travels to ULM next weekend for its final regular season road series of 2023.
