HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team completes a five-game road swing and a stretch of 12 of 16 contests away from home when they travel to New Orleans Tuesday to face Tulane at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Â
The game can be streamed via ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
Â
Southern Miss (23-15) snapped a recent three-game skid when they salvaged the final game at Coastal Carolina Sunday. The Golden Eagles scored nine runs over the final two innings to capture a 15-7 victory over the Chanticleers in a big SBC affair.
Â
Matthew Etzel had three hits in that contest to extend his hitting streak to a current team-best eight games, after Dustin Dickerson's 17-game skein was also ended that day.
Â
Designated hitter Slade Wilks, who homered and drove in four runs in that Coastal Carolina victory, leads the team in average (.336), home runs (15) and RBI (43) and could become the first Southern Miss Triple Crown winner, tops in average, home runs and RBI for his team, since Reed Trimble did it in 2021.
Â
Following Wilks in the offensive ledger, Dickerson ranks second on the club in batting average at .329, while Tate Parker and Rodrigo Montengro are tied for third at .319. With a pair of three-hit games over the weekend, Etzel has seen his average rise to .307.
Â
The Golden Eagles play the Green Wave (12-28) for the first of two games this season, also hosting them next Tuesday, May 2, at Pete Taylor Park. Southern Miss has won the last two tilts with Tulane as well as four of the last six meetings, but trail in the overall series 100-63-1.
Â
Following the Tulane game, Southern Miss starts a stretch of 11 of 14 games at home to end the regular season, beginning with Louisiana Tech (20-21) Wednesday night at Pete Taylor Park. Game time at The Pete is 6 p.m.
