Southern Miss Faces an Old Foe in Final Matches of the Year

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss beach volleyball heads to Elmwood, La. for the final matches of the 2023 regular season. The Golden Eagles face off against the 17th-ranked Tulane Green Wave in a Saturday doubleheader.
Last Time Out
Southern Miss (15-20) finished winless against tough competition at UAB's Blazer Beach Bash. Central Arkansas jumped out early on the Golden Eagles and held on for a 3-2 win to open the tournament.
Host UAB took advantage of disadvantageous winds to clip the Golden Eagles 4-1 in match two and No. 17 Tulane finished off the day but not without a scare from Southern Miss' second pairing, who forced extra sets and fell 18-16 in the penultimate frame to drop the match.
Previewing the Match
Southern Miss and Tulane are no strangers to one another as they have already faced off once this season and 12 times overall, including four times last season.
The No. 17 Green Wave enter the weekend 20-8 on the year and host their final matches before travelling to the Conference USA Beach Volleyball Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Tulane rides a four-game win streak and has taken five of their last six matches on the season.
Additionally, Tulane is 5-1 this season at their home courts at White Sands Beach Volleyball in Elmwood, falling only to No. 5 LSU.
Southern Miss is winless in two tries against the Green Wave in Elmwood after playing there twice in 2022. The weekend's doubleheader does give the Golden Eagles a chance at their first win over a ranked opponent in program history.
