Beach Volleyball Wraps Road Swing With LSU Beach Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss travels down the bayous of Baton Rouge for a two-day tournament at LSU. The LSU Beach Invitational features New Orleans, Spring Hill, No. 4 Florida State, No. 13 Washington and No. 5 LSU.
Last Time Out
Southern Miss (9-8) finished the Arizona Invitational 1-3, sweeping Arizona Christian before falling in succession to No. 17 Arizona, (RV) Cal Poly and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
Previewing the Competition
New Orleans enters the game 11-7 on the year and sits at 5-2 in Southland Conference play. The meeting against the Privateers is the eighth all-time and the first of three this season. Southern Miss is 3-4 against UNO and lost the last match 3-2 last season.
Southern Miss faces Spring Hill (11-5) for the second time this season after downing the Badgers 4-1 in the opening weekend of the season. The Golden Eagles now trail Spring Hill 5-7 in the all-time series.
Florida State, ranked fourth in the country, becomes the fifth ranked opponent Southern Miss plays this season and the first of three this weekend. The Seminoles sit at 16-2 overall and 4-1 in CCSA play. Southern Miss has not beaten Florida State in three previous matches.
Travelling from Seattle, the 13th-ranked Washington Huskies meet Southern Miss for the first time in either program's history. Washington holds a 7-6 record on the year with their match against Southern Miss slated to be their last in Baton Rouge.
No. 4 LSU and Southern Miss face off for the fifth time with the Tigers unblemished against Southern Miss. LSU holds their fourth spot in the AVCA poll via a 13-4 record on the year.
The Slate
Play begins Saturday, March 25, at 9 a.m. at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium on the campus of LSU. The Golden Eagles play two more matches on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. against Spring Hill and No. 4 Florida State, respectively.
Sunday, March 26, features two ranked opponents with a 1 p.m. serve against No. 13 Washington and a 3 p.m. finale against No. 4 LSU.
