HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- After defeating Florida A&M 4-2 last weekend in Tallahassee, Fla., the Southern Miss women's tennis team (1-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) prepares for their first home match of the year against Northwestern State (1-1, 0-0 Southland Conference) on Feb. 4.
The Black & Gold defeated Florida A&M University 4-2, winning their first match of the year, overcoming the Rattlers by winning four singles matches and one double. Zenn Lim secured the win with her defeat over Genesis Whitelock in two sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-2.
Southern Miss previously competed in a fall invitational sponsored by the Lady Demons. Last season, the Black & Gold defeated NSU 4-1 in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to keep their perfect record intact. Two pairs of Golden Eagles won to give them a 1-0 advantage in the doubles point, which served as the competition's opening victory. The Golden Eagles won 4-1 after Sarah Medik, Alyssa Richter, and Ebru Yazgan each won two sets. With contests going back to 2006, Northwestern State has a 9-5 advantage in the series.
After defeating Xavier University 7-0, NSU will play Jackson State this afternoon before traveling to Hattiesburg to take on the Golden Eagles on Saturday.
First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex; entry is free to all home matches.
