HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss women's tennis team (1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) dropped their match against Northwestern State( 3-1, 0-0 Southland) 4-1 at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.

"I am excited to play our first home match. The girls have been training hard and improving every day in practice. Northwestern State is a good team, and we will need everyone to step up and compete hard," said head coach Piyanart Engineer.

Despite the loss, returner Maddison Ricardo was able to find the lone singles victory for the Golden Eagles over Gig Kanaphuet in two sets with the scores of 6-2, 6-1, and the doubles pair of Suhana Das and Clara Tardivel found a win over Gig Kanaphuet and Sofi Garcia by a score of 6-4.

The Black & Gold will remain at home for a matchup against Alcorn State at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex on Feb.12 at 2 p.m.
