THIBODAUX, La.-- At the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon, the Southern Miss women's tennis team (3-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) upsets Nicholls State (6-5, Southland) 7-0 to earn the program's first win in Thibodaux, La.

"The squad defeated a strong team 7-0 by playing well in both doubles and singles matches. The secret to success is preparation; practice is where we need to keep improving, "head coach Piyanart Engineer says.

The Golden Eagles were able to pick up the early doubles point with a 6-0 and 6-1 score at No.2 and No. 3 doubles, with Das/Tardivel and Ricardo/Lim picking up the respective wins. Southern Miss then was able to sweep all singles matches.

Freshman Hannah Chambers completed the 7-0 when she caught a quick win in two sets over Laure Lopez, scoring 6-4 and 6-1 in the No.6.

Notably, Suhana Das and Zenn Lim recorded matching pairs of wins, 6-4 and 6-1, on the court over opponents Simona Maksimovic and Carla Bouygues.

The Black & Gold have earned the first sweep of the 2023 season over the Colonels.
