Women's Tennis on the Road to Thibodaux

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss women's tennis team (2-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) heads to Thibodaux, La. for an afternoon matchup against Nicholls State (6-4, 0-0 Southland) at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex on Feb.24.
The Golden Eagles fell 4-2 in a mid-week match against Lamar last Tuesday. To start off the afternoon, Southern Miss won two of the three doubles matches for the doubles point. Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter found the victory over Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Margarita Nikonorova with a score of 6-2. Followed by the doubles pair Maddison Ricardo and Zenn Lim with a 6-1 defeat over Jayci Wong and Saloni Tamang.
Unfortunately, Southern Miss did not carry the momentum into singles play, dropping four of the six. Freshman Hannah Chambers found the lone singles victory in three sets against Cardinal Elena Rubio with the scores of 6-4, 4-6, and 6-3.
The Black & Gold lead the series against Nicholls 5-2, with matches dating back to 2006. Southern Miss last faced Nicholls State in Hattiesburg last season on March 3 for a 7-0 sweep. After sweeping the singles contest, the Golden Eagles topped the Colonels in doubles, winning two of the three matches. Southern Miss achieved its first 7-0 victory of the 2022 season while recording their fourth sweep of the year.Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter overcame their opponents in doubles action to advance to 7-1 on the year as a team. Suhana Das and Clara Tardivel defeated Colonels 7-5 to earn the doubles point.Southern Miss won all six singles matches in just two sets completing their 7-0 victory.
This will be the first road match against Nicholls State since 2013. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
