Southern Miss Finishes in Ninth at Tulane Classic Presented By Chad Brownstein

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Windy conditions during the final round of the Tulane Classic Presented By Chad Brownstein resulted in a ninth-place finish for the Southern Miss women's golf team at English Turn Golf & Country Club in New Orleans, La.
"We showed glimpses of what this team is capable of this week," said head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "Elena [Melich] held her own and despite her struggles today, is going to do a lot of good this semester. As a group, we did not handle hard well, but we are better equipped for what lies ahead in April after going through it this week."
Momoka Ando delivered a team-low 75 on Tuesday. Ando moved up 13 spots on the leaderboard after her three-over par performance. The Tokya, Japan native three birdies, including two on the front nine where she went even. Elena Melich was the top Southern Miss finisher as the sophomore ended the tournament tied for 10th. Corbacho went 10-over par today after going two-over par through the first two rounds. It was her third-straight top-10 finish after placing ninth at the lady Red Wolves Classic and fifth at The Judson.
Playing as an individual, Taylor Trible finished tied for 30th after firing a six-over 78 today. She was one of three Golden Eagles to go sub-80 today. Alma Betoret carded a seven-over 79 and finished tied for 39th. Merche Corbacho fell to 65th after a final-round 87 today and Fernanda Gorostiaga finished in 80th after an 11-over 83.
No. 47 Purdue won the team event at 33-over par, while Tulane's Carla Bernat won the individual championship by shooting a two-over 218 for the week.
Southern Miss will practice for a few weeks before playing in the Tchefuncta Invitational in Covington, La. The two-day event will be placed Feb. 27 and 28 at Tchefuncta Country Club.
