HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss women's tennis team (1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) takes on Alcorn State (0-4, 0-0 SWAC) at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex, looking to add their 14th consecutive win against the Lady Braves Sunday morning.
The Golden Eagles have an unblemished record against the Lady Braves, leading the series 13-0 with matches dating back to 2006. The last match-up occurred in Hattiesburg on March 29, 2022, for a 4-0 victory from Southern Miss, marking the 31st straight home win for the season.
Alyssa Richter and Maddison Ricardo defeated Alcorn in the No. 3 position in doubles with a straight 6-0 sweep. Sarah Medik and Monique Burton led the Black & Gold to 6-2 victories on court one, and Suhaha Das and Clara Tardivel also won 6-2 for the Black & Gold.
Clara Tardivel carried the momentum from the doubles match into singles play, defeating her opponent in straight sets without dropping a game on court four, while Alyssa Richter dropped just one game on court five with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Maddison Ricardo was able to clinch the win on court five with the scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
Despite the loss to Northwestern State last weekend, returner Maddison Ricardo was able to secure the Golden Eagles' lone singles victory, and the doubles team of Suhana Das and Tardivel defeated the Demons 6-4.
