
Women's Golf to Open Spring Semester at Tulane Classic Hosted by Chad Brownstein

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss women's golf team will kick off the Spring semester in New Orleans at the Tulane Classic Hosted by Chad Brownstein. The three-day event will be played at the highly regarded English Turn Golf & Country Club starting on Sunday morning. The 54-hole event ends with Tuesday's round that starts at 8 a.m.
The Golden Eagles' lineup will feature Momoka Ando, Elena Melich, Alma Betoret, Fernanda Gorostiaga and Merche Corbacho. Freshman Taylor Trible will play as an individual. The grouping of five will tee off starting at 9:32 a.m. on Sunday morning from Hole #10. Ando will be the last Golden Eagle going off the tenth hole at 10:04 a.m. Trible will get an early start at 8:50 a.m. on Hole #1. She will be paired with Tulane and Purdue individual players, while the rest of the team will be playing with Incarnate Word and Memphis.Â
The 18-team field includes Boston College, Cal Poly, Central Arkansas, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Howard, Incarnate Word, Iowa, Memphis, Missouri State, Purdue, Rutgers, South Dakota, Southern Mississippi, Texas El Paso, Tulane, Wichita State, Arkansas State. The golf course is set up to play as a par-72 at 6,326 yards.Â
Ando leads all Golden Eagles in stroke average at 72.7 per round. Melich is not far behind at 72.9. Along with Betoret, both Ando and Melich have finished top-five in a tournament this season. Ando claimed second place at the Hoover Classic, while Southern Miss took home the team championship. Corbacho will be making her second appearance of the season and Gorostiaga will be making her third.Â
The only difference that Southern Miss faces is the absence of Friend Chompitakdacha. Chompitakdacha, who competed in 31 events donning the Black and Gold, graduated in December. She was the lone senior on the team.
