Lady Eagles Begin Two-Week Homestand Against Old Dominion

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball returns home for the first of four contests in Reed Green Coliseum. The span begins tomorrow with a 6 p.m. tip against Old Dominion.
Last Time Out
Southern Miss lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Texas State, 62-52, but the Lady Eagles showed prowess to force the extra time. Down by 13 in the first quarter, Southern Miss looked to be out of the game entirely after the first 10 minutes.
Once Domonique Davis went down with injury, it continued to look dire for the Black & Gold. However, thanks to Lani Cornfield and Femi Funeus, the Lady Eagles rallied, using the entire length of the game to claw their way back.
Southern Miss tied things in the third quarter and then hung within one possession down the stretch to forced OT knotted at 48 each.
The final five minutes did not go the Lady Eagles way, largely due to unforced errors and mounting turnovers.
The Old Dominion Series
Old Conference USA foes meet for the first time as Sun Belt Conference members and since Jan. 30, 2020. ODU leads the overall series 5-4 and 3-2 in Reed Green Coliseum.
Old Dominion took the last meeting via 67-50 victory in Norfolk, Va. Lauren Gross is the only Lady Eagle on the current squad and on the 2019-20 squad, although she redshirted the year due to NCAA transfer rules.
The Monarchs' head coach, DeLisha Milton-Jones, has never coached a game against the Lady Eagles in her three years at the helm.
Scouting Old Dominion
Old Dominion enters the game with a 14-9 overall record and 6-4 mark in conference play. Last week, the Monarchs fell to Texas State, 52-46 at home, and bounced back against Coastal Carolina, 78-64.
