Southern Miss Travels to Akron for MAC-SBC Challenge Friday Night

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â A pair of heavyweights will go toe-to-toe Friday night as Southern Miss travels to Akron for the MAC-SBC Challenge. Tip-off inside James A. Rhodes Arena is slated for 6 p.m. CT and can be watched on ESPN+.
Game 2: Southern Miss (1-0, 0-0 SBC) at Akron (1-0, 0-0 MAC)

Friday's game is the first of two MAC-SBC Challenge games this season for Southern Miss. Matchups were determined based on NET final net rankings from last season. The second contest will take place on Feb. 10, with matchups set based on real-time NET rankings and announced in January. All Sun Belt schools are on the road for the first round and at home for the second round.Â
The game will feature Michael Reghi and Jeff Phelps on the ESPN+ call. Fans can listen on the Southern Miss Radio Network, Southern Miss Game Day App, or their local Southern Miss Network affiliate to hear John Cox on the call.Â

- Southern Miss is coming off a 64-42 season-opening win against William Carey on Monday nightÂ
- The 42 points allowed were the fewest under Jay Ladner and marked the 48th time Southern Miss has held an opponent under 50 points since joining the Division I ranksÂ
