Track & Field Continues Season at Vanderbilt Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss track and field team heads to Nashville, Tenn., for their second meet of the season to take part in the Vanderbilt Invitational Jan. 20-21.
"We made a nice start to our indoor campaign. The team performed well because they executed well. This meet is another chance for us to keep competing, improving our marks, and decide the direction of our training. We're ready for round two of the season," said head coach Jon Stuart.
The Golden Eagles go into the second meet of the indoor season, having collected one individual win, ten top-three finishes, and a school record at the Blazer Invitational the previous weekend. Freshman Mylani Galbreath found the lone victory of the day, along with Isabela Ross, Mar'Ques McCray, Trinity Benson, Safiya John, Jared Williams, Katelyn Cartwright, Tomek Przybylak and Zharia Taylor earning a top-three showing in their events. Junior McCray broke the school record in the 600m run with a time of 1:21.84.
Southern Miss will be joined by Sun Belt opponents Arkansas State, Louisiana, and ULM. As well as a few other non-conference opponents Ole Miss, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Tennessee.
Competition will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. with the men's heptathlon 60m dash, long jump, shot put, and high jump. The day's last event will be the men's and women's 1000m run. Day two will begin on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m run. The weekend will conclude with the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
The Black and Gold will be off next weekend and return to action on Feb. 5 back in Birmingham, Ala., at the CrossPlex for the Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama.
