Soccer Loses Match to Mississippi State, 2-0

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's soccer team lost 0-2 against Mississippi State Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.

There was no goal action in the first half, but Mississippi State broke into the scoring column at 54:04. Bulldog forward Maggie Wadsworth found the game-winning goal for the Bulldog with an assist from midfielder Haley McWhirter. Mississippi State exited the period leading 5-1 in shots.

The Black & Gold found few opportunities in the second half and failed to get a foothold.

At the 61st minute, Bulldog midfielder netted the ball with an assist from forward Elle McCaslin. With a two-goal lead in the second stanza, the Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas and refused to let the Golden Eagles slot in the ball.

The Bulldogs lead the match in shots 12-2, forcing goalkeeper Alex Helbling to come up with seven saves. while Mississippi State goalkeeper Maddy Anderson recorded her seventh shutout of the season.
