MOBILE, Ala. -- Despite battling intense heat and torrential downpour on the final day at the USA Intercollegiate, sophomore Jacee Fields managed to drain eight birdie putts en route to shooting a career-low 69 at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. The Golden Eagles finished in 10th as a team.
"Momoka [Ando] had a solid week and it was amazing to see how she conducted herself despite some setbacks -- never got rattled," said head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "Jacee [Fields] performance today was stellar because it was all her and I think that shows what she's capable of every time she tees it up. Overall, I'm extremely proud of the way this group handled themselves and I am excited to see what the rest of the semester holds."

Playing as an individual, Fields wasted no time starting her day on the back nine with back-to-back pars. The Fort Worth, Texas native then reeled off five-straight birdies from hole 12 to hole 16 to reach five-under. She went into the turn four-under and promptly birdied the next two holes to reach six-under with seven to play. Fields squeezed in another birdie sandwiched between four bogies on the final stretch to reach three-under for the day and finish tied for 22nd.
Sophomore Elena Melich also had a solid day, carding a two-under 70 to finish tied for 22nd. The reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year had a trio of birdies on the day. Senior Friend Chompitakdacha went even-par with three birdies during her final round. It was the second consecutive day that the Thailand native fired a 72.
Momoka Ando managed to stay inside the top-20 after a three-over 75 on the final day placed her in 18th. Ando's first-round 68 on Saturday tied a career low and was the low score for any Golden Eagle all weekend.
Freshmen Alma Betoret and Fernanda Gorostiaga finished with a six-over 78 and a four-over 76, respectively. Both had their best round come on Sunday afternoon. Southern Miss' 10th place finish was 21 strokes lower than its 2021 result.
The Golden Eagles will next head to the Hoover Classic at Hoover Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. on Sept. 19. The two-day event will wrap up on Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
