Golden Eagles Send 12 to NCAA East Preliminaries

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss track and field will send 12 student-athletes to compete at the NCAA East Preliminaries hosted by Indiana University at the Haugh Track & Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind. that will run from Wednesday, May 25 to Saturday, May 28.

"We're thrilled to be representing the Black and Gold here at the preliminaries," said head coach Jon Stuart. "All of these athletes who qualified have worked so hard all season long and I know they'll put their best foot forward against some of the best talent in the country."
Southern Miss will have three athletes compete on Wednesday with Elijah Miller in the 100m and Fred Moudani in the shot put both set to open the regionals at 6 p.m. CT for the Golden Eagles, while Landon Chalden is set to compete in the opening round of the 400 meter hurdles at 7:20 p.m. CT.
Jordan Speer opens the day for the Golden Eagles on Thursday with the hammer throw at 9 a.m. CT, before Marquasha Myers and Ashlee Osaji partake in the first of two events the pair will compete in, with the long jump at 5 p.m. CT. On the track, Kenia Seals, competes in the 200 meter dash at 7:45 p.m CT to conclude day two of the regionals.
The NCAA Indoor National Runner-Up in the high jump, Corvell Todd, will try to secure a spot at the outdoor championships on Friday at 1:30 p.m. CT, while Miller and Chalden will also both compete in the quarterfinals of their events on Friday evening, should they advance out of the opening round on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles will have Trinity Benson, Destiny Charles, Trinity Flagler, Seals and Savi'a Varnell as options for the 4x100 relay on Friday at 4 p.m. CT, with Benson, Flagler, Seals and Varnell capturing the Conference USA title in the event in San Antonio. Myers and Osaji return to action in the triple jump at 5 p.m. CT, while Seals would conclude the competition for the Black and Gold on Saturday evening, should she advance out of Thursday's opening round.
