Baseball Returns to Road for First of Five-Straight Road Games with SLU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The No. 4 ranked Southern Miss baseball team returns to action Tuesday night when they travel to Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana in the first of five-straight road contests. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Pat Kennelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
The game can be seen via ESPN+ via webstream as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
The Golden Eagles (32-8) enter the contest having won a school-record tying 14 games, while also having won 22 of their last 24 contests. Southern Miss currently holds the longest road winning streak in the nation at 11 games. SLU (17-23) looks to snap a three-game skid. Scott Berry's club has also won their last nine non-conference games and are 9-1 in those contests this season.
The program again moved up in the national polls this week. The now enjoy their highest-ever ranking in the D1Baseball.com and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls with its current spot.
This will be the second meeting between the schools this season with the Golden Eagles winning 3-2 at Pete Taylor Park earlier this month.
Golden Eagle sophomore right-hander Matt Adams (0-0, 13.50 ERA) will make his first collegiate start, while he will be countered against Lion right-hander Hunter O'Toole (2-3, 5.96 ERA).
Dustin Dickerson (.352), Slade Wilks (.319) and Reece Ewing (.304) lead Southern Miss in hitting. Wilks paces the team with 22 extra-base hits and four stolen bases. Christopher Sargent ranks first on the team both with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs, while Dickerson ranks first in doubles with 16. Wilks has missed the last three games with an oblique injury and is not expected to play on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles continue the road swing with a three-game Conference USA road set at UAB this weekend, before finishing this stretch next Tuesday, May 3, at South Alabama.
