HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team travels to Ruston, La. for a pair of Conference USA matches this weekend. The Golden Eagles take on the LA Tech Lady Techsters on Friday before a neutral-site tilt with the UAB Blazers on Saturday.Â
The Golden Eagles (11-2, 1-0 C-USA) prepare for their first C-USA match since Feb. 20, when Southern Miss battled the UTSA Roadrunners. The Black & Gold dominated UTSA, picking up a 4-0 sweep. Alyssa Richter, Clara Tardivel and Sarah Medik won their matches in singles competition, while Southern Miss dominated the doubles portion of the match.
Southern Miss last took the court for a trio of home matches in four days against Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn. Southern Miss racked up three victories, outsourcing its opponents, 15-1 over the course of the matches.Â
The Black & Gold has seen recent success against both programs it will face this weekend. The Golden Eagles knocked off UAB at home on March 19, 2021 by a score of 4-2, and two days later, the Black & Gold defeated LA Tech in Hattiesburg, 5-2. The Golden Eagles are set to travel to Ruston for the first time since 2012.
Led by head coach Steve Schram, the Golden Eagles recently capped off their home slate with an undefeated record of 7-0. Southern Miss has not dropped a match in Hattiesburg since 2018, and Schram is undefeated at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex in his tenure. The Black & Gold will look to ride the momentum gained at home as the Conference USA Championships approach.Â
The Golden Eagles take on the LA Tech Lady Techsters this Friday at 10 a.m., followed by a Saturday matchup with UAB at 10 a.m. Admission at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex is free, and fans can follow the women's tennis team on Twitter, @SouthernMissWTN for updates.
