HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Beach Volleyball returns to the sand at the 2022 edition of the Southern Miss Beach Invitational.
"After logging the miles, we are looking forward to being at home," said Southern Miss head Coach Shawn Taylor. "We took advantage of the week off to address some things and more importantly get a little break as we head into the homestretch of the season. A couple of our matches this weekend feature opponents we have seen this season. It will be a great retest. We will see a very familiar team in Spring Hill along with a few teams we have never played before as a program. The weather should be great and the action on campus should be packed. We are looking forward to a fun-filled weekend on the beach!

Last Time Out
Southern Miss returns to the friendly sands of Hattiesburg for the first time this season after playing 20-consecutive road matches to open the 2022 season.
Â
The Golden Eagles enter the weekend coming off a seven-game road skid against some of the nation's top opponents. Coach Shawn Taylor's squad faced the 18th-, 14th-, sixth-, 12th- and tenth-ranked teams of the AVCA Poll. While the Black & Gold were unable to match the high levels of competition, the experience gained against each opponent will be invaluable for the freshmen-laden team.
Â
Southern Miss finished its West Coast trip with a close loss to Santa Clara, falling 2-3. The Black & Gold's match was the closest the team came to taking a match outright and would be the culmination of the team's performance over the spring break. The team fell behind 2-0 before the first, fifth and third flights would finish, respectively.
Â
The final three sets would finish in quick succession, resulting in Southern Miss falling just short of forcing a pivotal third set at flight No. 1.
Â
Comparing the Competition
This weekend, Southern Miss welcomes Chattanooga, Huntingdon, Nicholls, Spring Hill and Texas A&M – Kingsville. 13 matches will be played over the course of Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2, with the first starting at 8:30 a.m. each day.
