HATTIESBURG, Miss. – This weekend marks a matchup of Conference USA's early leaders in the team standings as Southern Miss entertains Louisiana Tech at Pete Taylor Park for a three-game series.
Game times are 6 p.m., Friday, 2 p.m., Saturday, and 1 p.m., Sunday. All three games can be heard on the Southern Miss Sports Network as well as streamed at ESPN+.
The Golden Eagles (17-7 overall, 5-1) look to extend their current four-game win streak when they meet the Bulldogs (18-7, 5-1). They entered their first major national poll this week with a No. 27 ranking by Collegiate Baseball. LA Tech ranks No. 23 in that poll.
After meeting eight times during the regular season and three more times in the Conference USA Tournament last season, the three-game series this weekend is the only set between the two scheduled this season.
The Golden Eagles have batted well as of late, having notched at a .375 team clip over the last four games that have included them scoring 47 runs and hitting 13 home runs. Dustin Dickerson, who has hit safely in each of his last seven games, leads the team in batting average at .383, after going 12-of-19 last week with four doubles, three RBI and a .632 batting average.
Both Christopher Sargent and Slade Wilks has also been in front of the Golden Eagle power surge that has seen them collected 15 home runs over the last five games and a dinger in each of their last nine contests. Sargent, who is the current C-USA Hitter of the Week while also earning a Collegiate Baseball Player of the Week nod and a NCBWA Co-Hitter of the Week national accolade, and Wilks have each hit five round-trippers over the last four contests.
Southern Miss, who did not play during the midweek, finished the month of March with a 12-5 record and a three-game sweep of WKU in Bowling Green, Ky., the last time out.
The Bulldogs, under former Southern Miss baseball assistant coach Lane Burroughs, lost its only midweek contest at home to Dallas Baptist, after sweeping league-foe FIU in Ruston last weekend.
