CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team climbed two spots on the final day of the Chattanooga Classic to finish in 10th at Council Fire Golf Club. Freshman Elena Melich was the highest individual finisher for Southern Miss en route to tying for 20th.
"We faced a lot of new challengers this week and overall we responded fairly well," said head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "There are some things things we need to tidy up heading towards the CUSA Championships, but we are close to everyone clicking for three full rounds."
Melich used an even-par 72 today to shoot a 221 over the three-day event. The Guadalajara, Spain native recorded a team-high five birdies on Monday morning to finish with nine in three rounds. Fellow rookie Momoka Ando finished four strokes behind Melich and ended up tied for 43rd. Ando carded a one-over 73 during the final round to record her best score of the weekend.
Junior Friend Chompitakdacha matched her first-round score and netted a three-over 75 on the final day. Chompitakdacha finished tied for 51st and netted three birdies. Reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year Merche Corbacho fired a one-over 73 today to record her best round of the tournament and move into 57th.
