HATTIEBURG, Miss. – After venturing out West last week, the Southern Miss men's golf team returns to the East Coast Monday and Tuesday when they play in the 54-hole ECU Intercollegiate at the par 72, 6,381-yard Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, N.C.
The Golden Eagles finished tied for fifth in the 23-team Grand Canyon Invitational field at Phoenix, Ariz., last week.
"We're excited to get back into action this week," said Southern Miss coach Eddie Brescher. "Our guys are coming into this week with a chip on their shoulder from the final round in Phoenix. As a coach, you can always tell when your team has that fire in their eyes. The guys are fired up and hungry this week."
Seniors Hunter Atkins (West Point, Miss.) and Brice Wilkinson (Madison, Miss.) each tied for 10th last week.
The duo will again be in the lineup this week, along with sophomores Robbie Latter (Mississiauga, Ontario) and Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) and freshman Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.). Sophomore Warwick Purchase (Pretoria, South Africa) will play as an individual.
The tournament will consist of 36 continuous holes on Monday with a final 18 on Tuesday.
"Brook Valley is a course with a lot of doglegs and old school mapping," said Brescher. "This course is very similar to our home track, Hattiesburg Country Club. The only difference is the greens have some fall offs around them. So, our short games will require precision to maximize scoring. We are looking forward to the challenge this course presents."
The 12-team field along with Southern Miss includes host East Carolina, Dartmouth, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, IUPUI, Maryland, Mount Olive, Oakland, Presbyterian, Temple and Western Carolina.
