Women's Tennis Falls to South Alabama in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team fell to the South Alabama Jaguars on Thursday, March 17 in Mobile, Ala. The Golden Eagles were unable halt the surging Jaguars, as Southern Miss was swept for the first time this season by a score of 4-0.
The Golden Eagles (8-2, 1-0 C-USA) fell in doubles competition for just the second time this season, as South Alabama's pairs picked up two wins before competition was halted. Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter suffered their second loss of the season as a pair in a 6-3 decision, while Sarah Medik and Monique Burton fell by a score of 6-2.
Southern Miss could not turn the tide in singles action, as three two-set losses saw the Golden Eagles drop their second road match of the season. South Alabama improved to 12-2 with Thursday's win and improve to 10-1 at home.
"Tough loss today as South Alabama competed very well from the first point in doubles," head coach Steve Schram said. "I know we will learn from this match and get better."
Matches involving Burton, Medik and Maddison Ricardo were not finished after South Alabama claimed the victory. Burton and Medik were entrenched in close contests, as both were entering a third set when the match was called.
Next Up:
The Golden Eagles return to Hattiesburg for a Saturday matchup with Jackson State on March 26 at noon. The match will take place at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex and admission is free.
