DeLand, Fla. – Southern Miss women's tennis opened its fall slate at the Stetson Fall Invitational with two full days of competitive reps at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Closing the weekend with 11 total match wins across singles and doubles.
The Golden Eagles blended experienced returners with first-year Golden Eagles to kickstart the 2025 campaign, showing poised baseline play in singles, active poaching and first-strike patterns in doubles, and composed responses in long deuce games, promising signs as the roster builds toward October.
Southern Miss traveled eight student-athletes Hannah Chambers, Gagana Mohan Kumar, Sakura Sudo, Miranda Xu, Kamornwan Kornsila, Pimmada Lim, Mia Hasashi-Morrissey, and Celine Mosteanu and rotated lineups throughout the weekend to evaluate pairings and patterns. Veterans helped set the tone with clean first-serve percentages and strong communication at net, while newcomers settled quickly, turning defense into offense and finishing points with purpose. With 11 victories in the books, the coaches left DeLand encouraged by the team's depth, doubles chemistry, and ability to convert on big points.
Head Coach Piyanart Engineer and Assistant Coach Abhijeet Tiwari highlighted the group's cohesion and match toughness, key pieces as the Golden Eagles continue to refine combinations and sharpen situational play late in sets. With valuable match minutes now banked and multiple players logging first fall action in Black & Gold, Southern Miss departs DeLand with momentum and clarity on combinations.
