
Golden Eagles Head to Desert for MountainView Collegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss women's golf team has headed West to the foothills of the Catalina Mountains, set to play in the MountainView Collegiate in Saddlebrooke, Ariz. from Friday to Sunday.It's the third time in the last four seasons that the Golden Eagles have traveled to the desert and the first time this season where they will compete in the Mountain time zone.
The par-72, 6,210-yard course will host 10 teams inside the top-50 of the Golfstat Team Rankings. The full field includes Missouri (host), Kansas State (host), No. 50 Oklahoma, No. 29 TCU, No. 35 Iowa State, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 23 Texas Tech, No. 15 Arkansas, No. 6 Florida, No. 19 Texas A&M, North Texas, No. 46 UNLV, No. 8 San Jose State, Houston and Tulsa. Southern Miss will be represented by Elena Melich, Friend Chompitakdacha, Momoka Ando, Icie Cockerham and Jacee Fields.
Southern Miss is coming off a second-place finish at the Tchefuncta Invitational three weeks ago. Both Chompitakdacha and Corbacho finished tied for seventh, while Momoka Ando finished 12th. The clutch performance by the Black and Gold gave Southern Miss its best finish in nearly five years and the best finish of the Lucy Nunn Burke era.

Chompitakdacha, Corbacho and Melich are the only three Golden Eagles to play in every tournament this season. Chompitakdacha leads Southern Miss in strokes at an average of 75.67 per round and has tallied two rounds at par or better. In this same tournament last season, Chompitakdacha finished tied for 26thand Corbacho finished tied for 39th.
