NATCHITOCHES, La. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team picked up a win in the first Conference USA matchup of the season on Saturday, Feb. 19. The Golden Eagles swept the UTSA Roadrunners in a neutral site matchup to remain undefeated.
The Golden Eagles (5-0, 1-0 C-USA) opened their morning by winning the doubles point against the Roadrunners. Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter won their doubles match, and Southern Miss was awarded the point as UTSA only had two pairs available for competition.
Sarah Medik and Clara Tardivel picked up wins in their singles matchups, clinching the 4-0 sweep against UTSA, as the Roadrunners only had five available competitors. Medik won her matchup with scores of 6-1 and 6-0, while Tardivel picked up the decision, 6-0, 6-3.
Yazgan, Burton and Suhana Das were all leading their singles matches when play was halted due to Southern Miss' clinched win. The Golden Eagles now have started the season 5-0 for the first time since 2020 and have claimed their first two neutral site wins of the season.
Head coach Steve Schram improves to 36-9 with Southern Miss and a career mark of 113-44 as a collegiate head coach. The Golden Eagles are undefeated both in Hattiesburg and on the road to open the 2022 season.
