Women's Tennis Defeats Sam Houston in Thibodaux

THIBODAUX, La. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team remained unbeaten, as the Golden Eagles defeated Sam Houston on Sunday, Feb. 13. The Black & Gold bested the Bearkats by a score of 4-2 in a neutral site match hosted by Nicholls at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
The Golden Eagles (4-0, 0-0 C-USA) opened the afternoon in doubles competition, as Southern Miss bounced back after dropping the doubles point in its previous contest against Chattanooga.
Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter bounced back from a loss against UTC with a dominant 6-2 win over Isidora Zivkovic and Lusine Chobanyan of Sam Houston. Sarah Medik and Monique Burton picked up their second doubles win of the season to clinch the point for Southern Miss.
In singles competition, wins from Yazgan, Burton and Das clinched Southern Miss' fourth victory of the season. Burton was especially effective, blanking Zivkovic with a pair of 6-0 sets to improve to 1-1 on the year. Clara Tardivel led her singles match with a set in hand when play was halted after Southern Miss clinched the win.
Shevita Aulana made her collegiate debut in singles action, joining Richter and Tardivel as one of three freshmen who have entered the lineup for the Golden Eagles in 2022. Southern Miss defeats Sam Houston for the first time in program history with Sunday's victory.
Head coach Steve Schram improves to 35-9 with the Golden Eagles and a career mark of 112-44 as a collegiate head coach. Southern Miss improves to 4-0 for the first time since the 2020 season.

Southern Miss heads to Natchitoches, La. for a pair of matches hosted by Northwestern State. The Golden Eagles take on UTSA in a Conference USA matchup on Friday, Feb. 19 before battling the Lady Demons on Feb. 20.
