
Women's Golf Heads to Big Easy for Tulane Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss women's golf team will kick off its spring tournament slate with a short drive down I-10 to New Orleans for the Tulane Classic. The three-day event at English Turn Golf & Country Club will feature 18 holes Sunday - Tuesday.Â
The Golden Eagles are coming off a fall season that featured three top-five finishes, including a third-place finish in the Lady Red Wolves Classic at Sage Meadows Country Club. Backed by Elena Melich's top-eight finish, Southern Miss fired its sixth-lowest 54-hole total in program history in Jonesboro, Ark. Momoka Ando fired a career-low 68 in the third round to secure the top-three finish for the Black and Gold.Â
The 6,296-yard course features a pair of monster par fives on the front nine, including a 525-yard par five at hold six. Two par threes are littered over the first nine holes and another two are on the back nine. In total, the par-72 course has four par fives that totals 2,037 yards. Head coach Lucy Nunne-Burk will travel the normal lineup of five golfers, while freshman Jacee Fields will play as an individual. The starting five includes Melich, Ando, Merche Corbacho, Friend Chompitakdacha and Icie Cockerham.Â
The 16-team field includes Boston College, Charlotte, Clemson, Iowa, Memphis, Michigan, Nebraska, North Texas, Rutgers, SMU, Southern Miss, Texas State, Tulane, UAB, UTSA, Wichita State.
