HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss women's tennis looks to extend their home match win-streak to 26-straight contests as the Golden Eagles take the court against Chattanooga this Friday. Head coach Steve Schram leads the program into its third match of the season with a 2-0 record.
The Golden Eagles enter the match fresh off a 4-0 sweep of Jacksonville State last Saturday, Feb. 5, the team's second straight sweep of the 2022 season.
Schram's squad set the tone early against the Gamecocks, taking the doubles point after 6-1 and 6-2 victories from pairs Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter and Suhana Das and Clara Tardivel, respectively.
Southern Miss quickly wrapped up the singles portion of the day when Tardivel, Yazgan, and Richter swept their opponents, earning the final three points for the Black and Gold's 4-0 win.
The win marked the 25th-straight home victory at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex and the second in the 2022 season.
Chattanooga enters Friday's match with a 4-2 record, most recently falling to UAB in a 5-2 loss in Birmingham. The Mocs are 0-2 as the visiting team in 2022, with their other loss coming at the hands of Alabama.
The Mocs and Golden Eagles square off for the first time since 1994, with Chattanooga holding a 2-0 advantage in the last two meetings. The last time the two teams faced one another was Feb. 14, 1994 where Chattanooga defeated the Golden Eagles 8-1 in Memphis, Tenn.
First serve at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11. Admission is free. Follow the Southern Miss Women's Tennis team on Twitter, @SouthernMissWTN for updates.
