HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â Senior women's golfer Friend Chompitakdacha finished her Southern Miss career on Tuesday afternoon at the Hattiesburg Country Club, helping the Golden Eagles to a third-place finish at The Judson. Alma Betoret and Elena Melich tied for fifth as ULM took home the team title.Â
"Having the opportunity to play at home and show off Hattiesburg Country Club was a great way to wrap up our Fall season," said head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "We grew so much this semester, and everyone really stepped up at different times.Â
"I am Incredibly proud of Elena and Alma for their continued and consistent fight. And with this being Friend's last event, I don't have enough words to thank her for the growth that she's been a part of during her time here. We've got big shoes to fill, but she's leaving us better than when she started. And a special thank you to Lauren (Judson) Shoemaker for letting us honor her family this week with this event."
Betoret fired a final round 71 to secure the best finish of her young career, while Melich recorded an even-par 72 today. It was her second round at par or better of the tournament after shooting a one-under 71 on Monday morning.Â
Jacee Fields, who opened the day in a three-way tie for first, tied for 10th after shooting a four-over 76 today. Her lone birdie of the day came on the 9th hole. Sophomore Momoka Ando also tied for 10th with a three-under 69 today. Ando's round led all Golden Eagles on Tuesday, and she drained five birdies on the front nine to go along with one on the 18th hole. Chompitakdacha rounded out the team score for Southern Miss with a nine-over 81.Â
Merche Corbacho finished in 10th while competing as an individual. She used back-to-back 72's to break into the top-10. Icie Cockerham finished her season debut in a tied for 37th after firing a two-over 74 today. The Mississippi native had four birdies, including three on the front nine alone. Taylor Trible finished in a tie for 55th, while Fernanda Gorostiaga finished 58th.
The Golden Eagles are off the rest of the semester and pick play back up on Feb. 12 at the Tulane Classic. The three-day event will be played at English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans, La.Â
