
The Golden Eagles Draw for Second Time in Series History Against Troy

HATTIESBURG, Miss.—The Southern Miss Women's soccer team (1-7-3, 1-3-2 Sun Belt) tied 1-1 against conference foe Troy (3-6-3, 1-3-2 Sun Belt) for the second time in series history.
"We played good soccer and controlled most of the game. I am really proud of the quality they showed today we just have to come out every day and be consistent and put our chances where we do get them, I am very pleased they were able to bounce back, we will take this result and continue to get better," said head coach Mohammed El-Zare.
In the first four minutes of play Southern Miss struck first when midfielder Blessing Kingsley slotted the ball into the middle-center of the net shooting from the far right side of the box for her first goal of the season and seventh for her career.
There was no goal action for the remainder of the period, as both teams exited the field with the Golden Eagles up 1-0.
In the second stanza, forward Caylah Williams found the equalizer for the Trojans at the 48th minute of action with a header assist credited to Jayla Gage.
Ryan Smith also led the team offensively with five shots and two of them being on goal.
Southern Miss outshot Troy 9-3 in the contest. The Golden Eagles totaled four shots in the first half and five in the second half Alex Helbling was only forced one save between the sticks.
Sunday's tie marks the third tie of the season for the Black & Gold and second tie in series history against Troy.

The Golden Eagles hit the road to play South Alabama Sunday Oct. 16; kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
