South Alabama continues to lead the series now 13-4-0 over the Golden Eagles.
In the first nine minutes of play, South Alabama forward Monique Gray volleyed the ball past Alex Helbling with her right foot from a long cross credited to midfielder Danielle Fuentes to put the Jags on the board.
South Alabama midfielder Imane Addi scored when she was awarded a penalty kick in the 14th minute of action—followed by her nailing a header with the assist from Fuentes to bag a brace and advance the Jaguar lead 3-0 six minutes later.
The Golden Eagles first scoring opportunity came in the 22nd minute of action from midfielder Ilana Izquierdo, but she fired it out top.
The second shot of the period came from Izquierdo again 16 minutes later, but it bounced off the left goalpost for the Jaguar keeper to save. The South Alabama defense played tight and tough as they only allowed these two shots to their seven in the first period.
The Golden Eagles exited the half behind the Jaguars.
The Jaguars kept their footing when they scored five minutes into the second stanza with a free kick that shot towards the top right of the box past the outstretched arms of Helbling.
Southern Miss attempted to redirect the ball several times but were challenged. In the traffic, South Alabama forward Morgan Cross recovered the ball and found the net at 62:54, with the Jags up 0-5.
Midfielder Bernadett Stefan spoiled the shutout for South Alabama in the 67th minute of action with her second goal of the season and career; she now ties Izquerido in recorded goals for the year.
South Alabama went in for the counterattack when forward Jasmine Greene dribbled the ball past Helbling for a score line of 1-6.
Goalkeeper Kesaia Bruni entered the game for her third appearance this season as the Jags continued to look for room. Greene scored again with an assist from defender Gracie Wilson.
In the 79th minute of action Izquierdo was awarded a free kick four feet away from the box but fired it out the top middle.
The Jaguars capped their scoring in the 84th minute of play when Greene recorded a hat trick by tucking it in around Bruni.
The Golden Eagles were unable to cash in their shots as the score line for the day was 8-1.
The squad has only had one multi-goal game this season when they played Marshall back in mid-September. This match was the most goals allowed in the conference slate for the Golden Eagles.
