Women's Golf Finishes Tied for Eighth at Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team fired a 10-over 298 to finish in eighth at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, which was completed on Tuesday afternoon at Tacoma Golf and Country Club in Seattle, Wash.
"We put ourselves outside of our comfort zone this week," said Southern Miss head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "There were a lot of west coast teams that we had never seen before and a golf course that is similar, yet so different from Hattiesburg Country Club. In order for us to continue to grow, we needed an event like this. Despite the finish, this trip has set us up for the rest of the semester."
The 21-team field was topped by Gonzaga, who shot an eight-over 872 for the two-day event. The Golden Eagles finished with a 27-over 891. Momoka Ando shot a two-under 70 during her final round to finish as Southern Miss' leader for the third time this season. Southern Miss moved up two spots on the final day following a 10th-place finish on Monday. Ando's four-birdie round matched Melich for the most in a round by a single Golden Eagle for the weekend.
Melich finished with her second consecutive one-over 73 to end her west coast trip tied for 19th. Despite ending Monday three-over par, Friend Chompitakdacha fell to 50th on Tuesday after an eight-over 80 round today. Freshman Taylor Trible shot an 11-over 83 today to finish tied for 75th.
Sophomore Jacee Fields used her Tuesday round to fire a three-over 75, which was her best score of the 54-hole event. Fields finished with a pair of birdies today.
Weber State (873), Nevada (880), Cal Baptist (883) and British Columbia (884) followed Gonzaga on the leaderboard to round out the top five.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Oct. 10-11 when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark. to play in the Lady Red Wolves Classic.
