
Women's Golf Primed for Lady Red Wolves Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's golf team is set to take part in the Lady Red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. On Monday, Oct. 10 and Tuesday, Oct. 11. The two-day, 54-hole event at the Sage Meadows Golf Course is set to play at 6,164 yards.
This marks the third-straight year that the Golden Eagles join the 15-team field in Jonesboro after finishing in third place last season. Elena Melich, who returns to the lineup this weekend, finished in eighth place at last year's event. The full Golden Eagle lineup includes Momoka Ando, Alma Betoret, Friend Chompitakdacha, Jacee Fields, Taylor Trible and Melich.
Ando leads the Golden Eagles with three top-20 finishes this season, including a second-place finish at the Hoover Classic – a tournament that Southern Miss won. Ando's season stroke average is 72.33, which leads the Golden Eagles by a full stroke. Melich is averaging 73.44 strokes per round as the sophomore has played in all three tournaments so far.
Chompitakdacha and Fields are the only other Golden Eagles to compete in all three tournaments played this season alongside Melich and Ando. Both golfers are averaging roughly 74 strokes per round. Freshman Taylor Trible has found her stride in the lineup after missing the season opener, but has appeared in the last three tournaments, including the Lady Red Wolves Classic. Betoret is making her third start after playing in the Tchefuncta Invitational and Hoover Classic.
The 15-team field includes Arkansas State, ULML, Troy, Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, Memphis, Southern Miss, Houston Christian, Eastern Kentucky, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, North Alabama, Texas A&M - Commerce, Samford, Stephen F. Austin, Omaha, and Arkansas State "B".
The field will take off via a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Round two will follow the completion of round one on Monday. Tuesday's 18-hole slate will also start at 8:30 a.m.
