The Golden Eagles Head to Foley for Round One of SBC Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss women's soccer team heads to Foley, Ala., to take part in the Sun Belt Conference Championships for their first appearance as they clinched the No.9 seed; they will compete on Monday at 7 p.m. and are set to play the No.8 seed Georgia State.
"We love coming in as an underdog in a new conference. We've prepared for this and know that if we execute our style of play, we will take care of business," said assistant coach Haley Knowles.Â
Last Time OutÂ
In the first period, forward Blessing Kingsley found the second conference win for the Golden Eagles with her game-winning goal for her second goal of the season and eighth of her career at the 25:58-minute mark with the help of Esmeralda Figueroa for her fourth assist of the year.Â
The Golden Eagles broke the series tie over Louisiana, advancing their lead 4-3-1 to finish their regular season play.Â

Last Time on the Pitch
The last time these two teams met on the pitch was Aug. 30, 2002, when the Panthers defeated the Golden Eagles 2-1 for a neutral site game in Oxford, Miss.Â
The Opponent
Sixth-season head coach Ed Joyce leads the Panthers. The team has achieved four straight seasons of eight or more wins under his leadership and four consecutive appearances to the conference tournament semifinals. Georgia State had the third-best victory percentage in program history in 2020 with a 10-3-2 record. The squad earned the No. 2 seed in the East at the Sun Belt Conference Championship, making it GSU'sGSU's most successful season since 1998.Â
Georgia State lost 1-0 at Georgia Southern in their final game of the regular season to conclude the campaign 7-6-5 overall and 3-5-2 in conference play.
