Women's Soccer Loses Fight in Foley

FOLEY, Ala.— The No. 8 seed Georgia State (8-6-5) defeated the Southern Miss women's soccer team 1-0 to end their post-season campaign in the Sun Belt Conference Championships. This match took place at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex in Foley, Ala. Monday night.
The first scoring opportunity came from forward Alice Williamson in the 9th minute of play that was shot off target, but both teams would exit the period tied 0-0.
The Golden Eagles appeared to dominate possession heavily throughout the first half, manipulating the ball to their rhythm and tempo, advocating for their style of play. As the second half went on, the Panthers took increasing shares of possessions stamping their authority in the game.
The game-winning goal came at the 57:16 minute mark when Georgia State forward Jimena Cabrero slotted the ball at the bottom right of the goal off of her right foot, with the assist credited to forward Alondra Nieves.
Despite their efforts to find the equalizer, the Black & Gold led the match in shots as they outshot the Panthers 11-7. This match will conclude post-season play for the Black & Gold.
