HATTIESBURG, Miss.—The Southern Miss women's soccer team (2-9-4, 2-5-3 Sun Belt) finds second conference win over Louisiana (3-9-5, 2-6-2 Sun Belt) 1-0 on Thursday for last regular season match at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
"We have been through highs and lows. We were battled and tested in our non-conference schedule; our young team has always approached every situation with the mentality of growth while also believing in it. To have a win in the last regular season game and senior day is a well-deserved acknowledgment of what only these young ladies know they have been through. We are Southern Miss, and we don't give up! Ever.
I am because WE are," said assistant coach J.P. Valadares.
In the first period, forward Blessing Kingsley found her second goal of the season and eighth of her career at the 25:58-minute mark with the help of Esmeralda Figueroa for her fourth assist of the year. This lead would hold at the break and the final, as the women were able to record their second win of the season in conference play.
The Golden Eagles break the series tie over Louisiana for a memorable senior night, advancing their lead 4-3-1. As their regular season ends, the Southern Miss women's soccer team will make their first appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Championships this Monday.
Looking Ahead
The Golden Eagles will play in the SBC Championships in Foley, Ala., starting on October 31st. They will play in the first-round match against Georgia State at 7 p.m. CT. Live Stats and streaming will be available.
