
Soccer Falls 1-0 Against Texas State

HATTIESBURG, Miss.—The Southern Miss women's soccer team (1-6-2, 1-2-1 Sun Belt) fell 1-0 against first match-up opponent Texas State (9-1-2, 3-0-1 Sun Belt) at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex Oct.1.
Within the first two minutes of the first half, Texas State forward Zoe Junior shot out right, followed by Bobcat midfielder Wimberley Wright with a shot out top.
In the 18th minute of action, Bobcat Zoe Junior attempted to break into the scoring column off a free kick, she was able to find the back of the net, but it was ruled offside.
The first scoring opportunity for the Golden Eagles came from midfielder Bernadett Stefan at 31:50 when she shot on goal at the bottom center of the net but was saved by Texas State goalkeeper Katelyn Chrisman.
The Bobcats paced the half in shots 8-2; there was nothing to separate the two teams at the break.
In the second stanza at the 71st minute, the Bobcats take the lead after defender Madisyn Flammia met the ball with her head, which dropped in the net off the bar, putting Texas State on top, 1-0.
In the final two minutes of the contest, a series of crosses in and around the box for the Bobcats ends in a shot for forward Alice Williamson, but she was unable to find the equalizer for the Golden Eagles; the score line for the final remained 1-0 despite Southern Miss' defenses.
Texas State outshot the Black & Gold for the first series match-up. The Bobcats totaled eight shots in the first half and six in the second. Tallying Golden Eagle Alex Helbling two saves for the contest.
