Women's Tennis Opens 2022 Season with Matchup against SLU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team opens its 2022 slate with a home match against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. The Golden Eagles take the court on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex, with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.

Eight student-athletes will look to lead the charge for the Golden Eagles. Suhana Das, Ebru Zeynep Yazgan, Monique Burton and Sarah Medik return for the Black & Gold and are joined by newcomers, Alyssa Richter, Clara Tardivel, Shevita Aulana and Maddison Ricardo.

"We're very excited to get the 2022 season underway," head coach Steve Schram said. "With the addition of four new players to our roster, it will be exciting to see how they compete and contribute to the team."

The Golden Eagles look to build off a strong 2021 campaign. The Black & Gold finished last season with a record of 8-3 and won three of four Conference USA matches, the most in program history.

"This team is led by three tremendous student-athletes, Burton, Yazgan and Medik," said Schram. "They have had tremendous careers thus far, and the best is yet to come."

Schram begins his fourth season at the helm of Southern Miss' program, holding a 31-9 record throughout his tenure, including an impressive 22-0 record in Hattiesburg. The Golden Eagles will look to continue their dominance at home against a familiar foe in SLU.

Southern Miss last faced the Lions last season in Hammond, La. on April 5, 2021. The Golden Eagles made quick work of SLU, shutting out their opponent, 4-0, as Burton picked up a singles and doubles victory.

The Golden Eagles take on the SLU Lions on Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. Admission is free.
