Golden Eagles Improve to 7-0 at Home with Win Over Chattanooga

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Golden Eagles finished off another successful Southern Miss Classic with a 3-1 victory over Chattanooga at the Wellness Center. Head coach Stephanie Radecki and her squad improved to 8-5 with a 7-0 record at home.
The Golden Eagles racked up 79 digs as a unit, holding the Mocs to a hitting percentage of .130. Lindsey Legg, Kenzie Smith, Mia Wesley and Duquesne Moratzka posted more than 10 blocks each, anchoring their team.
Moratzka, Wesley, Kinsley Hanback and Lauren Talbert all posted double-digit kills for Southern Miss enroute to victory. Following the win, Hanback, Moratzka and Wesley were named to the Southern Miss Classic All-Tournament team.
Hanback was declared tournament MVP due to her offensive efficiency throughout the three matches. The senior from Lexington, Ala. recorded 29 kills with a hitting percentage of .580 in the matches against EKU, Lamar and Chattanooga.
Set One, Southern Miss 19, Chattanooga 25: Southern Miss fell behind in the first set of the match against Chattanooga and was unable to recover, dropping the frame 25-19. The Golden Eagles were held to a hitting percentage of .114 in the opening set.
Wesley led her team offensively, with four kills to open the match. Cara Atkinson followed closely behind with three kills on five attempts. Hanback added two blocks for the Golden Eagles.
Set Two, Southern Miss 25, Chattanooga 16: The Golden Eagles battled to tie the match, 1-1 with a stellar second set. Southern Miss dominated the Mocs offensively, posting 16 kills to Chattanooga's seven. Wesley and Moratzka both recorded four kills each, while Smith recorded an assist on 15 of her team's kills.
Chattanooga was held to a hitting percentage of .025 as the Golden Eagles recorded 26 digs as a unit throughout the second frame. Lindsey Legg, Moratzka and Smith all tallied five or more digs to help their team tie the match up.
Set Three, Southern Miss 25, Chattanooga 17: Southern Miss finished off the sweep in the third set, winning the frame by a score of 25-20. The Golden Eagles were again able to keep their mistakes to a minimum, pushing past the Colonels in straight sets.
Defense was the story of the third set for Southern Miss, as the Golden Eagles held Chattanooga to a hitting percentage of .111 enroute to a 25-17 set victory.
Set Four, Southern Miss 25, Chattanooga 13: The Golden Eagles put an exclamation mark on the weekend with a 25-13 set win over the Mocs to take the match, 3-1. Moratzka led the way for her squad, posting six kills in the decisive frame.
As a unit, Southern Miss recorded 20 digs in the fourth set, led by Legg with five. The Golden Eagles posted three service aces to finish the match against Chattanooga.
